1. Basic Rules
There are some basic rules to abide by in the Madden Football League (MFL). These rules are a combination of what I’ve seen work in other leagues (I’m not above stealing ideas!), and what I’d like to think are common sense rules, but still need to be said. As the league progresses, these rules may be changed to fit the need of the league.
It is important all owners follow these rules so they do not have to be warned or removed from the league.
-----------
- Be courteous. Just because you didn't win your game doesn't mean it's time to argue with people or stray from the league. Take the league for what it is worth, a fun experience with fellow gamers and fans of football.
This includes during games as well. If you use a microphone please keep the context PG-13. Do not use vulgar language or threatening language towards your opponent. Any issues, report them to Blue&Gold or blingblau502.
- Be active. You must participate to be a member of this league. That does not just mean show up each game and play. That means being a part of the community and the league. Talk with the owners, post on the boards, vote on the polls, or you may just find yourself replaced one day.
- Be responsible. Make sure you communicate with your opponent when you will play your game. Make sure you have the correct time (EST, CST, PST) as well as date. As soon as you finish a game you should be communicating with your next opponent when the game will occur. If you cannot make your game, let your opponent and an admin know so we can react. Laziness will not be tolerated.
- Be fair. Follow the rules of the game, and the league. Cheating/glitching will have a zero tolerance rule. If you cheat you will be removed without warning. We ask that you also make proper play calls for the situation. I want to keep the rules regarding game play as loose as possible, but that doesn’t give players latitude to cheese your games. Going for it on 4th and 1 in the first quarter will not get you removed from the league. Running an occasional fake punt (within the established 4th down rules) on 4th down will not get you removed from the league. Running only 3 different “money” plays for an entire game and constantly running a hurry-up offense will get you removed from the league. Warnings will be given, and players will be removed for unfair play at the discretion of the league management.
2. Gameplay Rules
Game settings
Difficulty: ALL PRO
Format: FANTASY DRAFT
Quarter Length: 7 MIN
Accelerated clock: OFF
Injuries: ON
Weather: ON
Trades: ON (NO CPU)
Advances: Tuesday Morning, Saturday Morning
4th Down
Players should go for it on 4th down only when it is appropriate.
• 4th and 2 or shorter past the 50 yard line it is always acceptable to go for it. This includes fake punts and field goals. (If you think your opponent may be going for a fake punt or field goal, make the proper play call.)
• If you are trailing in the 4th quarter it is always acceptable to go for it on 4th down.
• If you are down multiple scores in the second half it is acceptable to go for it on 4th down.
Goal Line Offense and Defense
Should only be used inside the 10 yard line or any place on the field when you have less than two yards to gain.
Running Time off the Clock
You can only run time off the clock when under 2 minute in the first half or with 2 minutes to go in the game. Don’t stall in between plays to try to let more time tick off the game clock. You should be at the line of scrimmage before you play clock reaches 15 sec in most cases.
No Huddle
You should only be running the no huddle in appropriate situations. You may run the no huddle offense when there is less than 2 minutes left in 2nd quarter. You can run a no huddle if you’re behind in the 4th quarter in appropriate situations. You cannot run the no huddle with the lead unless it is under 2 minutes in the 2nd quarter.
Going for 2
You can only go for 2 if you can cut the lead to 3, 7, or 10. Or if you can take the lead by the same amount or make it so your opponent needs to score multi times to tie or win. You can also elect to go for 2 to win a game as opposed to kicking an extra point to tie at the end of a game.
Onside Kicks
You may attempt an onside kick when behind in the 4th quarter or when down by 21 points or more in the second half.
Pre-play player movement
On defense, you may position players where you see fit before the snap, except for D linemen. D linemen must remain on the line of scrimmage (in a 3 or 4 point stance) until the ball is snapped. In punt return formations you must leave all men near the line of scrimmage until the ball is snapped. Once the ball is snapped you can control a blocker in anyway you see fit.
What to do if you feel your opponent is not playing fair
If you feel your opponent is not playing by the rules dictated above, you MUST provide proof of the infraction. Make a replay of the play or plays in question, and submit them to Blue&Gold or blingblau502 for review. If you do not have proof of an infraction, there was no infraction.
3. Disconnects
The game is quite stable. We should not have to deal with many disconnects, however they do still occasionally happen. If a disconnect or game freeze happens, wait for him to come back online, and try to come to an agreement on how to handle the situation. If you cannot come to an agreement one or both of you are probably not right for this league, but in the mean time use the following rules:
If your opponent disconnects in the first half:
1. If he comes back online, recreate, to the best of your ability, the situation of the game and continue.
2. If he does not come back online within 5 minutes, you may finish the game against the computer.
If your opponent disconnects in the second half:
1. If he comes back online
a. and you are up 9 or more points, you may finish the game against the computer.
b. and you are up by 8 or less points, tied, or are losing you should recreate, to the best of your ability, the situation of the game and continue. 2. If he does not come back online within 5 minutes, you may finish the game against the computer.
If your opponent disconnects in the last two minutes:
1. If he comes back online
a. and you are up, you may finish the game against the computer.
b. and you are tied, or are losing you should recreate, to the best of your ability, the situation of the game and continue. 2. If he does not come back online within 5 minutes, you may finish the game against the computer.
4. Trades
Trades will be allowed during the season as well as the offseason.
- You cannot trade with CPU teams.
- The trade deadline during the season will be week 10.
- Trades will NOT be commissioner/league approved. Each owner will be responsible for making good trades. The cap system will prevent teams from acquiring too much talent. However the league management reserves the right to reverse/reject trades if needed.
- For the time being DRAFT PICKS CANNOT BE TRADED. We plan on implementing draft pick trades for the second season, however until we get the system for handling this online, we cannot track them.
- Before you submit the trade you must make sure your team has enough cap room to complete the trade.
